Tulane University and Audubon Nature Institute (ANI) have apparently hatched a plan,

––away from public view––to convert 4 of Audubon's ten clay public tennis courts to hard courts. This would:

1) Damage and disperse the community of 40+ aged tennis players who frequent the Audubon Public Courts, and

2) Disrupt and displace the diverse community of tennis players of all ages at nearby Atkinson-Stern Public Courts.

Clay courts are gentler on the human body.

Clay courts are a necessity for many people over 40. But if 4 of Audubon's 10 clay courts are converted to hard courts, that will result in a shift of the players from Audubon to the already over-burdened courts at the historic and diverse Atkinson-Stern Public Courts.

On May 29, 2021, a letter was posted on  RallyStarter.com

The letter urged members of the public to contact New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell (who appoints the members of the Audubon Commission) and ask that New Orleans's public clay tennis courts be preserved. Over 400 people responded in under 7 days.

Ten days after the letter to Mayor Cantrell went live. . .

ANI announced on live radio that the Audubon Public Clay Court issue had been pulled from the Commission agenda. This is a remarkable development in just ten days. But the freight train had only been slowed. It had not stopped.

On March 28th, ANI will roll out its FINAL PLAN and will vote on it TWO DAYS later!

WHEN: Mon, Mar 28, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: ZOOM
